In July, I received a series of notices from X that began, “There was an attempt to log in to your account…” followed by the account name, date of the attempted login and ending with “that seems suspicious. Review it now.”

It happened four times within no more than two weeks. Each time I reviewed it and changed the password.

Eventually, I was suspended for violating the X rules, specifically: "Violating our rules against inauthentic accounts," the email suspension notice read, in part.

What?!

I was paying for the verified blue checkmark! The very entity that cleared me as legit has an AI/bot/algorithm that suspended me for being inauthentic?

Which is a double insult, as anyone who knows me knows authenticity is my jam. :)

What did I do wrong? The week leading up to the suspension, I posted 23 times (not a lot); 12 were about writing (my career), and the rest were either baseball, music or politics. Elon Musk says that he is open-minded, still, have to wonder, is it my lean towards liberty that he doesn't like?

Be that as it may, I wasn’t too plussed about the fuss and decided I'd appeal. It was denied, both times I tried.

So, I decided to wait it out, and at the right time, I’d go back online, with X. That time is now!

My new X account. The previous account had more than 2,300 followers, checking in as my third most popular platform.

I won’t pay for verification since that didn’t go so well the first time.

I don’t expect an apology from Elon Musk, X or its AI/bots/algorithms.

However, a refund on the blue checkmark per-month charge sure would be nice.

Update 12/11/2025. I have applied and received the blue checkmark. A premium account is required to go live on X and I wanted to ensure my show, The Opinion Guy Fun Friendly Informative was accessible on the platform.
