Time For Me To Fly Time To Say Goodbye To Hometown News

616 Stories, and five years ago, I did something I had never done before in my writing career. I reported the news.
Yesterday, March 26, I emailed Hometown News' Associate Editor Halie Brown and Executive Editor Lynn Tiffany that "I have decided to resign from Hometown News."
"This week's piece is approximately 85% not my writing," I continued. "As I said before, I understand a tweak here or there. However, wholesale changes result in an article that wasn’t written by me. I find that to be untenable. It also means someone there doesn’t like my style. Which is fine, writing is an art, so not everyone will like the piece."
I suggested to the ladies that it was best they find a writer who fits the newspaper's new editorial style, and I publish in other ways.
"I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors!" Ms. Browm responded.
Until Hometown News Volusia hired me, all my writing was academic, aka scholarly work. A special thanks goes out to Cecil Brumley, the previous editor, who retired in December, for taking a shot on me.
"Hometown News has been a wonderful ride," I informed Ms. Brown and Ms. Tiffany.
Our exchanges were cordial; there is no animosity. I would welcome either as guests on my show, The Opinion Guy, for an editorial roundtable discussion.
I will still cover local news as I have for Hometown News Volusia, just on my own, will look for other publications anywhere in the world and continue to push the show while monetizing all that I do.
Thank you for reading everything I write and watching The Opinion Guy.
See ya around town and on the interwebs!
