Three Places To Eat & Drink Plus A 4-Star Hotel On One Manhattan Block

Two restaurants and one bar, all owned by an award-winning restaurateur on one New York City block, is hard to beat.

However, it gets better.

Those three establishments share this slice of Avenue of the Americas with a four-star hotel.

The hotel is the Kimpton Eventi. The slice of Avenue of the Americas is between 29th and 30th street.

Within the Eventi, one will find the Back Bar. Step outside the hotel, look to your right and you'll see the restaurant Skirt Steak, to your left is where the other restaurant can be found, L' Amico. All on the same side of the street.

You don't have to step outside the Kimpton Eventi to enter L'Amico, as hotel guests have access from the Eventi lobby.

The following is the restaurant review segment from my blog of the Kimpton Hotel Eventi, located on 851 6th Ave, aka Avenue of the Americas.

I tweaked it just a little and wrote an ending paragraph exclusively for this piece.

At Eventi, there are three dining experiences to choose from: Back Bar, L'Amico, and Skirt Steak.

They are all owned by Chef Laurent Tourondel. Mr. Tourondel has been a James Beard Award nominee on multiple occasions and earned Bon Appétit's Restaurateur of the Year.

When I ate at the Back Bar, it had the moniker of The Vine. The wait staff was busily attentive. Though my waiter was professional, he was not too friendly. I reminded myself that this is New York City; I was not in Florida anymore, far less people want to chat you up.

For breakfast at Back Bar, I ordered the farmer's omelet. You get a choice of what goes in it from a list of 12 items. It is served with potatoes, toast and roasted tomato. I skipped the toast in favor of doubling the tomato. The omelet overflowed with vegetables. I savored a hint of parmesan cheese in those veggies. It was outstanding,

I'll give a nod to the challah French toast with cinnamon-caramelized apples. The health freak in me wouldn't allow such a thing on my plate. However, I bet it would be as delicious as the farmer's omelet.

Satisfied with my meal...I moved to the reading room couch area located just off the Back Bar's main seating area. A fireplace lit a warm glow as I sipped champagne and wrote. There, the waiter had all the courtesies one expects at the Kimpton.

On many other stays, I dined at L'Amico. The service is excellent, the food has been excellent at times; other times it has been very good.

L'Amico, on the corner of 6th Ave. and 30th St., provides great food and views with distinguished ease.

Standouts include the breakfast selections of mixed berries with organic yogurt (with an amazing granola). The farmer eggs check in as outstanding, it is served with a nut and red pepper sauce that is to die for, as well as a tasty small salad. Also try the Frittata Caprese (roasted heirloom tomatoes, Fior di Latte, basil, toasted filone).

By all means, sip a Pure Green while watching the hustle of Avenue of the Americas through near completely glassed-in restaurant. The drink consists of kale, spinach, cucumber, celery, apple, lemon and ginger.

For lunch at L'Amico I dined on roasted chicken with Tuscan kale. It was excellent. For dinner, the Branzino was very good. Even though it wasn't the whole fish, the tail was on, and that was off-putting. I enjoyed the baby Brussel sprouts.

I grabbed a table at Skirt Steak with the intention of trying the cauliflower steak, as eating a Cow's diaphragm is unappetizing to me. Unfortunately, the cauliflower steak is cooked in butter, and the only sides that evening were French fries, no greens, the waiter informed.

Politely stating that neither fit my diet, the waiter understood. He suggested some restaurants nearby that I would certainly find to my liking. A nice gesture that was not followed up on, as I was pressed for time and went to L'Amico for the aforementioned Branzino and baby Brussels sprouts.

L'Amico and Back Bar are go-tos whilst in New York City. Even more so if one is staying at the Kimpton Hotel Eventi.

Skirt Steak is a place I'd never go to again, short a change in the menu.

As the immortal Meat Loaf once sang, two out of three ain't bad.
