Marriott Jacksonville Billed As Upscale But...

The Marriott Jacksonville, located at 4670 Salisbury Road, is a three-star upscale hotel, according to Smith Travel Research.  However, the staff successfully strives to be more, turning the three-star rating into a four.  

Renovations, completed in 2020, are another plus. All 255 guest rooms and suites were renovated, as were the restaurant, Bistro 202, the lobby bar, fitness center, main lobby, meeting spaces, and outside pool deck.

The renovations give the 40-year-old nine-story building a new hotel feel. Here is the main lobby.

The guest rooms are sized at 344 square feet, landing these rooms in the high end of the 300-350 square foot average in the U.S.

As for the suites, there are five. The square footage lays outs as such: three junior suites at 688 sq. ft., one junior accessible suite at 688 sq. ft., and one executive suite at 1,000 sq. ft.

There is a concierge level on the Marriott Jacksonville’s highest floor, the ninth. The concierge lounge is a private access amenity to ninth-floor guests.

The lounge comes replete with complimentary food such as breakfast, Hors d'oeuvres and dessert; there are cocktails for purchase, complimentary non-alcoholic beverages, an honor bar (you pour, you report what you drank; perhaps a better name would be Trust Bar), evening bar service and complimentary business services.

In neither of my two stays, one with Donna, did I, or we, avail ourselves of the concierge lounge. We have at the Tampa Water Street Marriott and loved it. I am betting the Marriott Jacksonville is as well.

The concierge lounge is also referred to as the M Club Lounge.

At Marriott Jacksonville’s Bistro 202, there was a small issue with the waitress during brunch. As I entered the dining area, she was on the opposite side of the floor, no doubt working, but not noticing that I was standing there.

I am not the most patient person when it comes to waiting and went to her rather than wait for her to notice me. At which time she advised that I could sit myself and enjoy a fantastic, healthy salad.

Equally enjoyable was the next morning brunch.

The hotel is close to many fun Jacksonville attractions such as the zoo, river cruises, a children’s museum, beaches and just 45 minutes away, the oldest town in the contiguous U.S., St. Augustine.
