The Tortugas are coming off a road trip to Lakeland, where they lost four of six games to the Flying Tigers, an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.
Daytona pulled out the last two by scores of 8-4 and 14-0 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
The win on Saturday was highlighted by a seven-run second inning. The Tortugas stole three bases in the game, including one of home by centerfielder Kyle Henly.
On Sunday, Daytona’s 14-0 whitewashing of Lakeland was generated by 14 hits while only allowing one hit. The excellent pitching was the work of Sheng-En Lin for five innings, Deivi Villafana for three and Griffin Green for one inning. Villafana gave up the Flying Tigers’ lone hit.
Daytona resides in last place within the Florida State League’s East Division with a 3-6 record . They welcome the St. Lucie Mets to Jackie Robinson Ballpark for the April 14 – 19 series.
St. Lucie, natch, a Mets affiliate, is also in the Eastern Division. They are in second place yet sport a losing record at 4-5.
Keep an eye on Mets’ shortstop Elian Pena. The Mets' eighth-ranked prospect has swiped three bags in eight games and will take the field Tuesday night with a .933 OPS.
On the mound, Cam Tilly, ranked 28 by MLB Pipeline within the Mets organization, has been dominant for St. Lucie; two starts, 8.1 innings pitched, 3.24 ERA and 0.96 WHIP.

For Daytona, the players to watch are catcher Jacob Friend, who isn’t hitting for average yet (.227) but has displayed power and an ability to get on-base through his 1.050 OPS.
If you are looking for a Tortugas mound presence, that honor goes to Edgar Colon. He has tossed 11 innings in two starts for a 2.45 ERA and 0.55 WHIP.
No rain in the forecast, so make plans to be at The Jack! Especially on Wednesday, April 15, as that is Jackie Robinson Day!
“Join us on Jackie Robinson Day as we honor the legacy of Jackie Robinson with a special Jackie Robinson Daytona Tortugas Hat Giveaway,” their website reads. “Celebrate his impact on the game and history while taking home this limited-edition collectible.
