What Memorial Day Means To Me

Each panel member on tonight's The Opinion Guy will comment on what Memorial Day means to them. In preparation for that, I wrote out my thoughts and am publishing them ahead of time.

Putting Memorial Day against the backdrop of the US celebrating 250 years, I would say that we wouldn’t be celebrating 250 if it weren’t for the men and women who died for this country.

That is not to say that every war we have fought is of importance; however, it is to say that every person who has passed in those battles has the same importance.

My biggest wish on Memorial Day is the same as it was last year, as I wrote then and updated this morning, I wish we had fewer dead people to memorialize.

We like to think, and I believe, that the people who pass don’t feel the pain of death. That pain is left to those who live. The soldier who died in the arms of his buddy it’s his buddy who lives with the pain. The airmen and women shot out of the sky leave loved ones who walk through life with the pain of losing a loved one.

Those who remember the person who died in battle bear the scars of war. So, it is to them, and of course to those who have passed, if they can hear us, I saw thank you for your sacrifice.

The Opinion Guy airs at 7 p.m. Eastern USA. It can always be found on YouTube. Tonight's panel is regulars Mike Vasquez, a Conservative and 20-year political commentator as well as host of No Sound Bites Allowed, Democrat John Navarra, running for Daytona Beach City Commission Zone 1 ( Incumbent Monica Paris), and Libertarian Gabe Wozniak, running for Florida Senate District 8 (Incumbent Tom Wright is termed out). Gabe is pinch-hitting for Libertarian Joe Hannoush.
