Things aren't peachy keen for the Peach Valley Café, located at the corner of Dunlawton Avenue and South Nova Road in Port Orange.

It closed on Thursday, Sept. 29.

An employee came to the door as I was snapping photos this morning to let me know the reason they closed.

It wasn’t a lack of business; rather, it was the rent, which was raised to a level that made operating the store unprofitable.

Based on the number of people who stopped by whilst the employee and I were chit-chatting (10:30 a.m.) I feel confident that owner Eric Holm isn’t shifting blame by putting the onus on rent. It was, indeed, a popular joint.

The employees went on to say valued employees were informed that they would get priority for hire at the other locations.

Mr. Holm is looking to reopen close to the former Port Orange locale if he can find land to buy, as that provides “immediate equity,” the employees stated.

In the meantime, Valley goers can visit Peach Valley Café in various locations. To wit, Eastport in the Villages, Gainesville, Heathrow (In Florida, not the London airport), Kissimmee, Maitland, Mt. Dora, Ocala, Orlando, and Ormond Beach.

A note on the front door of the former Port Orange location reads in part, “Serving the Port Orange community has been a joy and honor. We will miss our guests, our regulars and our friendships made along the way. Thank you for everything.”

The goodbyes continued on the Peach Valley Café’s Port Orange Facebook page, where the administrator wrote, “We remain committed to growth and are very open to adding more locations in Volusia County!”
